6 Peppers that will grow in Florida and make great hot sauce

  • Ancho
  • California Wonder - Bell
  • Cayenne - Long Red Slim
  • Early Jalapeno
  • Orange habanero
  • Sweet Banana

I’ve chosen these seeds because I think they are great for making hot sauce! The California Wonder and Sweet Banana are nice to add sweetness to your sauce. The Ancho is spicy and has thick walls to add a nice texture to your sauce. And the Cayenne, jalapeno and habanero offer a wide range of spiciness.

When to Plant: You can start peppers indoors or undercover either midsummer or midwinter. Peppers don’t like cold weather but they also don’t thrive in our intense summer heats, so it’s best to avoid those times of the year. This will be a slightly different time depending on where you are in the state

North Florida: Feb - Mar & July - Aug

Central Florida: Jan - Mar & Aug - Sep

South Florida: Aug - Feb

Planting instructions: Plant seedlings in an area that gets at least 6-8 hours of full sun. Vegetables love the sun. Ensure the soil in the area has been amended in some way. Florida dirt is not ideal.

Germination time: Varies based on the plant, generally though 10-20 days for peppers.

Number of seeds per pack: 18 - 22
