Tomato - Floradade

Tomatoes are probably the most popular vegetable to try and grow in the Garden. If you are new to Florida gardening then the biggest challenge you will face when growing tomatoes is knowing when to plant.

This is the Floradade variety that was actually created at the University of Florida. These tomatoes love the warm Florida weather and they produce a ton of 5-7 ounce tomatoes. Great for slicing and putting on sandwiches!

Type: Heirloom

When to Plant:

  • North Florida: February & August
  • Central Florida: March & August
  • South Florida: March - August

Planting instructions: Plant in a spot with full sun and well-draining soil. Give each plant 36” of space between each other. Sow directly into the garden or start transplants undercover. Plant seeds about ¼ “ deep and water regularly.

Germination time: 5 - 10 Days

Days to Maturity: 85 days

Number of seeds per pack: 30-40

Not much luck

Maybe started too early. Seedlings came up, but we’re stunted and never progressed

Amish Paste Toms

All the seeds germinated. If it hadn’t been for the cooler weather recently more would have survived. I’ve got about 8 in the ground now. Should be plenty for sure!
